Our HVAC Services for Covington Homes and Businesses
We provide all 7 core services in Covington, using Trane, Daikin, and Goodman equipment for heating and cooling and Briggs & Stratton equipment for backup power.
Air Conditioning Services: Same-Day Repair and Installation
Air conditioning services in Covington, LA cover AC repair, installation, replacement, and seasonal maintenance for Trane, Daikin, and Goodman Air Conditioning & Heating systems. Covington's growing subdivisions along the I-12 and US-190 corridors need Manual J load calculations because an oversized condenser short-cycles and leaves moisture behind. Emergency AC repair runs 24/7.
Heating Services: Heat Pump and Furnace Care
Heating services in Covington, LA
include heat pump and gas furnace repair, replacement, and fall tune-ups. St. Tammany Parish winters average a January low near 42°F, so a heat pump is the most efficient heating choice for most Covington homes. Homes with natural gas service can still suit a high-efficiency furnace from Trane, Daikin, or Goodman.
Ductless Systems Services: Zoned Comfort Without Ducts
Ductless systems deliver zoned cooling and heating to rooms without central ductwork. Older homes in Covington's downtown historic district often lack space for new duct runs, so Trane and Daikin ductless mini-split systems add high-efficiency comfort without cutting into original walls and ceilings. A room-by-room BTU load calculation sizes every indoor unit.
Commercial HVAC Services: Maintenance Plans for Covington Businesses
Commercial HVAC service covers rooftop unit repair, preventive maintenance agreements, and equipment installation for Covington businesses. Offices, shops, and restaurants along the US-190 corridor and in downtown Covington carry heavy latent loads from 74 to 80% humidity and customer traffic. Seasonal spring AC tune-ups and fall heating inspections keep Trane, Daikin, and Goodman equipment running.
Home Standby Generators Service: Power Within Seconds
Home standby generators restore power within seconds of an outage through an automatic transfer switch. Covington sits in St. Tammany Parish, which averages 4 to 6 named storm events per decade during the June through November season. Briggs & Stratton standby generators run on natural gas or propane to keep air conditioning, refrigeration, well pumps, and medical equipment going. Southern HVAC provides generator installation and generator repair in Covington, so your standby system is set up right and ready before storm season.

Covington Climate and HVAC Conditions
Covington sits along the Bogue Falaya River in St. Tammany Parish, where long cooling seasons and a mix of historic and newly built homes shape how HVAC equipment performs. Summer highs average 91°F in July and August, and the heat index regularly reaches 100 to 105°F. Relative humidity holds between 74 and 80% for much of the year, so a Covington air conditioner must remove moisture as well as heat.
Covington's housing stock pulls HVAC design in two directions. Older homes in the downtown historic district often lack central ductwork, which makes ductless mini-splits the practical high-efficiency upgrade. Newer construction near the I-12 Northshore interchange and along US-190 relies on central systems. In those homes, a Manual J load calculation prevents the oversizing that causes short cycling, clammy rooms, and uneven temperatures. Sizing decisions matter most at replacement time, and our guide on when to replace a heating and air conditioning system covers the age and repair-cost signals to watch.
Winters stay mild by national standards. The average January low sits near 42°F, so heat pumps provide more efficient heating than furnaces for most Covington homes, a difference our electric heat vs. gas cost comparison breaks down further. A minimum 16 SEER2 rating is recommended for new cooling equipment in this climate, and a single high-efficiency heat pump can cover both seasons.
Storm season runs June through November, and St. Tammany Parish averages 4 to 6 named storm events per decade. Extended outages leave homes without cooling during peak heat, which is why home standby generators and post-storm HVAC inspections matter here. Post-storm checks catch surge damage to capacitors, contactors, and control boards before a failed restart turns into a no-cooling call.

What Covington Customers Say
Covington HVAC FAQs
How Often Should HVAC Systems Be Serviced in Covington?
HVAC maintenance in Covington should happen twice per year, in spring before cooling season and in fall before heating season. St. Tammany Parish humidity of 74 to 80% keeps evaporator coils wet and condensate drains working for months. A spring visit clears drains and checks refrigerant, while a fall visit inspects heat pump reversing valves and heat exchangers.
Are Heat Pumps or Furnaces Better for Covington Homes?
Heat pump installation gives most Covington homes more efficient heating than a furnace, because St. Tammany Parish winters average a January low near 42°F. A heat pump also handles cooling through Covington's 91°F summers from a single system. Homes with existing natural gas service may still benefit from a high-efficiency gas furnace, based on a Manual J load calculation.
Does Southern HVAC Serve All of Covington and Nearby St. Tammany Parish?
Yes. Southern HVAC serves Covington ZIP codes 70433 and 70435, plus Madisonville, Mandeville, Folsom, and Slidell across St. Tammany Parish. We provide AC, heating, ductless, commercial HVAC, and generator services in Covington. Our 24/7 emergency service extends to every city in the table above.
What HVAC Upgrade Works for Older Homes in Covington's Historic District?
Ductless mini-split installation is the most practical high-efficiency upgrade for older homes in Covington's downtown historic district that lack central ductwork. Wall-mounted indoor units connect to an outdoor condenser through a small refrigerant line opening, so the work avoids cutting duct chases through original walls. Each zone has its own temperature control, and Trane and Daikin ductless systems handle both cooling and heating.
How Fast Can Southern HVAC Reach Covington for Emergency AC or Heating Repair?
Southern HVAC dispatches technicians to Covington from its Hammond shop, a drive of about 30 minutes via I-12. Emergency service runs 24/7, and same-day service is guaranteed for most calls placed before noon. Arrival time depends on traffic, weather, and technician availability, so call 985-520-5525 for a confirmed window.
